Comic relief

The whole free comic book day thing rocked. The girls and I each got a dozen or so free comic books, not to mention a few action figure type things, stickers, and tatoos. We're talking Spider-Man, Batman, Hulk, Star Wars, and more. I don't think the girls were too pumped-up about the activity when I first told them about it, but when we walked out of there with all those comics they were ecstatic.

There's something cool -- as a former comic book collector -- about hearing your kid say with excitement, "Dad, I finished reading Spider-Man!"

After comics, we ran some errands and then hit the park. The girls played at two different playgrounds for quite some time, and we rode bikes on trails for about three miles. It was threatening rain all day, but fortunately we never got more than a sprinkle, so the day's potential wasn't taken away from us.
